KIDSHIP INTRODUCES A “BIG BOAT” COURSE

Annapolis MD ------ Tim Dowling, President of Annapolis Sailing School, announced the introduction of a new addition to their well established kid’s learn to sail program, Kidship.

“After 12 years teaching kids from 5 to 15 how to sail dinghies, we have decided to expand our offerings. Many of our KidShippers come from sailing families who own or charter cruising sailboats in the 30 to 40 foot class. This May, when our season begins, we will be offering a new course aimed at teens who are interested in crewing on or sailing cruising auxiliaries,” Dowling explained. “This new course is being offered to kids at least 13 who have completed our Team Sailing program, or have had similar training with other junior programs in the area. Unlike most club based programs, Kidship is not oriented toward producing racing sailors. Our emphasis has always been more on the fun and recreational aspects of the sport. It is only natural for us that the follow up to dinghy sailing should be an introduction to cruising boats and cruising.”

“Our new course is called Introduction To Cruising. It runs Monday through Friday on the same 9:00 to 3:00 schedule as our other KidShip courses, with the addition of one overnight experience on Thursday night. Participants will spend the week learning as much as they can about one of our new Hunter 36 cruising auxiliaries and making the transition to sailing a ‘Big Boat’. All aspects of cruising, such as boat handling, navigation, deck seamanship and cruise planning will be touched upon, on an introductory level, of course. The climax of the week will be the Thursday night live aboard, anchored out somewhere on the Bay. To the best of our knowledge, there is no other program quite like this for youngsters available in our area,” Mr. Dowling concluded.

INTRODUCTION TO CRUISING is course 695 on the KidShip website. For more information call Kidship at 800-638-9192.
